In the early morning of May 16, Beijing time, HTC is developing an Android mobile phone driven by blockchain technology. The mobile phone, code-named Exodus, will provide a system-level wallet function with built-in security hardware to support digital cryptocurrency and decentralized applications.

At present, HTC's product focus is the virtual reality helmet Vive. Phil Chen will be responsible for all blockchain and digital cryptocurrency related projects within HTC, including the Exodus phone.

HTC plans to build a native blockchain network. Each Exodus phone acts as a node in the network, which provides users of the phone with a more convenient digital cryptocurrency trading function.

When talking about combining blockchain applications with Exodus mobile hardware, Phil said: "With Exodus, we will start supporting Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dfinity, and Lightning Networks support technologies, namely blockchain technology. It will support the entire blockchain ecosystem and will announce our partners in the coming months."

HTC is also considering whether to accept digital cryptocurrency as a means of payment when buying the phone, but the price of the Exodus phone has not yet been announced.

It is worth noting that HTC is not the first vendor to propose a blockchain mobile phone concept. In September of last year, Sirin Labs released a blockchain smartphone with a price of $1,000, which may be officially launched in October this year.

However, because there is no real machine, it is unclear what kind of function that this type of blockchain mobile phone can provide unlike conventional mobile phones, so as to enhance the digital cryptocurrency trading experience.

Allegedly, blockchain handsets will enhance the security and transactional user experience by integrating native wallet functionality within the handset. It is also possible to carry out direct digital cryptocurrency transactions between users within the network formed by this mobile phone, eliminating the cost of mining.

However, the above mentioned functions can be implemented on ordinary smartphones by installing software. Transactions in Bitcoin and other digital cryptocurrencies will generate mining costs, which are unavoidable in either ordinary phones or blockchain phones. Web browsers and chat applications providing privacy protection can also be implemented by installing applications.
