On June 21, the 2018 IMT-2020 (5G) Summit hosted by the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group was opened at Shenzhen Wuzhou Hotel. More than 400 experts from domestic and foreign industries participated in the discussion on the topic of “5G Commercial” to share the latest achievements and viewpoints. Dr. Cui Xian, Technical Director of Vivo, gave a keynote speech on the vision and challenges of 5G mobile phones.

Dr. Cui Xian said that the deep integration of 5G and artificial intelligence will become the trend of the 5G mobile phone era. vivo will define it as a 5G smart phone. Artificial intelligence has given mobile phone learning and thinking capabilities. 5G gives mobile phones more powerful communication capabilities. The combination of the two will make mobile phones evolve from “Smart Phone” to “Brain Phone” and bring users more. Strong features and a more intimate experience.

The 3GPP plenary session held in San Diego, USA, approved the freezing of the independent networking function of the 5G mobile technology standard (5GNR). In addition to the non-independent networking standards completed in December last year, 5G has completed the first phase of full-featured standardization work and entered a full-scale industrialization sprint phase.

5G industry ecosystem, compared to previous generations, will eventually provide more types of carriers for consumers to provide services, including mobile phone, wearable, AR, VR and other multiple terminal forms, and 5G mobile phones will still be the most in the entire 5G ecological chain. The key link.

According to Dr. Cui Xian, vivo has started the research and development of prototype 5G terminal prototypes and will actively participate in scale trials for operators; it plans to launch 5G pre-commercial terminals in 2019; it is expected that commercialization of 5G smart phones will be realized by 2020. Dr. Cui Xian shared the technical difficulties and solutions for 5G mobile phones in RF front-end, antennas, and motherboard designs.

As a member of China Mobile's "5G Terminal Pioneer Program", vivo launched pre-research on key technologies such as 5G antennas and radio frequency last year. It actively participated in the operator's strategic plan and seized a favorable opportunity for the deployment of 5G mobile phones. In June of this year, Vivo and Qualcomm announced that they have successfully collaborated to develop a 5G mobile phone millimeter wave antenna array and integrate it into a vivo cell phone, and perform wireless air interface measurement.

Terminal vendors have little say in the development of previous generations of wireless technology standards. Accompanying the accelerated upgrading of the industry, user experience is increasingly valued and terminal manufacturers have more room for discourse. In this context, vivo adapts to the trend and will raise 5G to the strategic level of the enterprise, lay out in advance, break through innovation, and strive to take the initiative in the 5G era.

Shortly after the 5G vision was put forward by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in 2015, vivo immediately initiated the research of some 5G basic technologies and deeply participated in the research and development of global 5G standards.

In 2016, vivo set up a 5G R&D center in Beijing, China, and began to fully participate in 5G core technology and standardization research. As of June 2018, vivo has submitted more than 1,000 5G technology proposals to 3GPP, making important technical contributions to the 5G standard. . So far vivo has established six R&D centers at home and abroad, including Shenzhen, Dongguan, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Beijing and San Diego, USA.

At present, vivo already has a large number of key 5G core technologies, which lays a solid technical foundation for the development of 5G smart terminals. For example, vivo and Qualcomm completed the development of the 5G demonstration system in April 2018, achieving a true 5G end-to-end application experience: uplink bandwidth of 200 Mbps, downlink bandwidth of 1.2 Gbps, and end-to-end delay of less than 5 ms.

During the development of the entire 5G demonstration system, vivo developed an engineering prototype that can interface with Qualcomm 5G prototype system and the corresponding back-end simulation network. Qualcomm provided a 5G prototype system that conforms to 3GPP standards. Both parties integrated resources and capabilities to jointly promote 5G commercial processes. .

As the world's leading smartphone company, vivo has the advantage of being closer to consumers and well aware of the issues and needs of consumers in using mobile communications. Vivo is stepping up research and development of 5G mobile phones, and strive to launch 5G pre-commercial mobile phones supporting independent networking in 2019 to provide users with the ultimate 5G experience.
